The Roleo Story

The Roleo Arm and Hand Massager was invented by a Licensed Massage Therapist in Los Angeles, CA to treat Repetitive Stress Injuries in his forearms, wrists and hands from thousands of hours of massage work at a busy day spa.  Heat, ice and stretching just didn’t get the job done, he also felt the need for massage and trigger point compression on the forearms to release tension in muscles responsible for hand and wrist movement.

The massage therapist designed Roleo to replicate massage techniques that National Institute of Health published studies have shown can help relieve symptoms of chronic hand and wrist conditions.  Though created for therapists, it soon became apparent that athletes, especially those who play tennis, golf, pickleball, and baseball, and rock climbers, weight trainers and cyclists would also find the Roleo beneficial, as would people who use their hands at work or play every day, such as musicians (especially guitar players, pianists and drummers and more), writers, office workers, chefs, hair stylists and construction workers and other tradespeople.  This has been confirmed by well over 1200 positive Amazon reviews.

HOW TO USE YOUR ROLEO

Roleo is an incredibly easy to use, intuitive self-massage tool.   You simply direct the massage to the areas as needed, where it feels good.

  • For best results, place Roleo on a flat surface, such as a desk or table, although it is perfectly fine to set it on your leg or other surface.
  • It is best to place the Roleo at the same level as your elbow when your arm hangs at your side.  This would be the same best height for your computer keyboard on your desk or kitchen table or standing up at a kitchen counter or worktable.
  • Slip fingertips between the rollers and gently push arm in up to the elbow.  Roleo is not recommended for use above the elbow as it is designed specifically for hand, wrist and forearm issues.
  • GO SLOWLY!  While it’s fine to roll your arm in and out quickly, back and forth (up to the elbow), it is best to go slowly to allow the pressure to sink deeper into muscles and tendons for best therapeutic results.
  • Roll gently over wrist, hands and fingers.  Usually best with the tightest setting.

MASSAGE TECHNIQUES:

  • EFFLEURAGE: rolling slowly in and out replicates this technique, common in Swedish massage, a gentle-to-firm stroking in the direction of the muscle tissue to relax muscles and encourage circulation.
  • TRIGGER POINT: find a hypersensitive, painful point in the forearm muscles (usually in the center of or nearer to the elbow, on the back (“extensor muscles”) of the arm, or front (“flexor muscles”) that control hand movement.  Hold the pressure on the point and breathe.  You can increase the pressure by flexing or extending your wrist, or by making a fist and releasing several times.
    • DO NOT HOLD ON A TRIGGER POINT OR ANY SPECIFIC SPOT FOR MORE THAN 90 SECONDS as this can cause tingling or numbness.
  • PETRISSAGE (or “Kneading): as you roll in and out, or while holding in one position, move your elbow side to side to give a sensation of kneading the muscles.

FOREARM MUSCLES TARGETED:

  • FLEXORS work to curl your fingers into a fist (or play guitar, hold a hammer, grab a rock ledge, etc.) or flex the wrist, while EXTENSORS extend your fingers and wrists.  Bicyclists, for example, use both at the same time, flexing their fingers to hold the handlebars while keeping the wrist extended.
    • To target the flexors, use the Roleo with your palm facing upward, so that you can target those muscles with the ridges in the upper roller.
    • To target the extensors, use the Roleo palm-down so the ridges are targeting the back of your forearm.

SUCTION CUPS: Roleo may be used with or without the suction cups provided.  If you'd prefer to use it "hands-free" while on the phone or at your desk, simply install suction cups and set it on a smooth surface of finished wood, glass, or metal.

·       To install, carefully remove the four black rubber feet in the base of the frame, push the top end of each suction cup into the slot and slide until a tight fit is achieved. Suction cups will work properly on a smooth surface like finished wood, metal, plastic or glass.

PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT: Turning the knob clockwise will increase the pressure, counterclockwise will decrease it.  There is a measurable difference between low and high pressure, though some people don't feel it as much as others.  Generally, the tighter your muscles, the less sensitive you may be to the difference in pressure.

PLEASE DO NOT TURN THE KNOB ANY FURTHER THAN IT FREELY GOES, IN EITHER DIRECTION. FORCING PAST THIS POINT MAY DAMAGE YOUR ROLEO.

WARNINGS:
